  • Rear Ladder for 2nd Gen

    Hi,

Having seen one on Ebay I was norrowly beaten (ran out of time as bidding) trying to get hold of one.

If you see some steps going can you let me know.

Chris Scott had an interesting idea in Sahara-Overland for the same problem with a HJ61 Land Cruiser...

His solution, "L" shaped brackets bolted to the side quarter panel to step from the bumper to the roof...

I am sure I have seen something similar somewhere, cast aluminium, with a flip down step piece... that would work a treat, if you could get into the quarter panel to brace behind the outer skin...

Maybe its the sort of thing that you would find at a boat chandlers...

Ooooh, is that resting on the rear gate...

What happens when you lower the gate... that would be right in the way...

From what I can see it would lower on the left hand side, leaving you standing in a slot between it and the wheel carrier on the right.

              UDTrev,

I couldn't help myself... down in Portsmouth today... happened to find myself outside www.marine-super-store.com and then all of a sudden I was inside.... asking the oik if he had anything like a flip down step...

Lo and behold... two cast (very polished) spring loaded flip down steps were in my grubby paws... all of a sudden we had settled on a mutually agreeable barter and I left the shop will a till receipt and a grin almost as large as when I am driving...

Now all I have to do is mount them to the drivers side rear quarter halfway between the bumper step and the roof...

When I can put them down (blimey are they tactile or what), I will take a photo... The step plate is about 10cm by 5cm, just enough to get a generous tow hold... did I say it was very shiny?...

Front Hub Cover in picture for scale. Step is just enough to get a toe hold on. Now need to make up a brace panel to go inside the rear 'd' pillar to hold the two of them... one step up on rear bumper, two up the side, onto my rack...

I'll try and add a higher resolution image... that one doesn't do them any favours... (edit.. yup that works...)

Anyone want the part numbers, drop me a PM....

A bit pricey at £17 odd each... but they do look nice... and when the are clipped up, they do not rattle at all.

                  Cheers Andy,

I will bear that in mind, seen a ladder on Ebay that goes over spare wheel, and considering it, might be able to offset cost by selling my spare wheel cover hmmmmmmmmmmm

Do you go to Pompey a lot ? if so why not join us on the P&O world (IOW) next saturday for a run along the Tennyson.
