My mate was going to scrap this because he thought it was a cracked block after fitting a new head. Turned out to be a botched head job, he's gutted, i'm really happy.
Its very difficult to crack or warp the block on one of these, but its very easy to bodge a head fitting, by using the old head bolts for example, by not using a thick enough head gasket or by failing to torque it up tight enough, as your friend probably knows by now.
