Overdrive

Can any one clarify whether overdrive should only be used on long runs and not on urban areas and when towing? An economy question!

I just leave mine on all the time and use ECT for steep hills and overtaking on motorways.

Leave it on, least RPM's the better, you have plenty of torque. The gearbox knows what its doing.

over drive is effectively top gear, so best to leave it on so the box has all ranges available.

ECT makes the vehicle hold the gears for longer, and change down quicker, using more revs. On a long journey this could increase the transmission oil temperature.

Best bet is overdrive on, ECT off.
