  • Bradford & Halifax Green Lanes

Do any of you Surf people know of any decent green lanes in Halifax/Bradford or surrounding areas?

  • #2
I do indeed. Halifax, Keighley, Holmfirth, few cheeky spots in Saddleworth and maybe some others when I remember.

Go some time off this month if you want to do some laning? Trying to organise some meets over on the Pajero/Shogun forum and on Low Rangers.

How extreme are the lanes in those areas, would a reasonably standard surf manage without getting battered?
Not that i'm getting interested in a trip out or anything
          Non consternationes.

            That would be great Bazza.

I know a fair few places and have not found anything that caused me problems. Only time I got stuck was when I was in my Shogun and we drove straight into Saddleworth moors. We we drove down as slope that was too steep to get back up and had no choice but to charge at the swamp at the bottom and steam up the other side. Although I got a metre away from steaming back up and ran out of speed. Took a Mini-digger to get us out.

Green lanes have been easy so far and my Hilux is on crappy 215/75/15 wheels. Worst I have done was rip a mudflap off the Shogun in Holmfirth.

I reckon the worst is Dawsons Lane near Holm Moss, it was badly washed out on some sections in November but its a wide lane so the bad bits can be avoided, the start of the TOR route is very scratchy so I miss that out. When are you planning on going? I'm free most weekends.

I have time off this weekend. Usually I work weekends. Where is Dawsons Lane? Is that just off Holme Moss that brings you out at the bottom of the reservoir? Or from there up the axle twister to Ramsden RD? If you could send me the map we can try organise something together.

On the 13th I am off up Parkwood/Tong Pay & Play.

I do a lot off night time off-roading which I find more adventurous and convenient.

Thanks, Will have a study of those and we can sort something out. In the meantime I am going to Parkwood/Tong pay&play centre for the first time this Sunday if anyone is coming.

If you guys are having a run around the Huddersfield and Holmfirth area i would like to tag along if thats ok? As for this sunday im am taking my youngest canoeing with the local club at Mattersey, plenty of hot chocolate for the trip i think with the snow forecast!

You're more than welcome mate, I'm going to do a recce of two of the lanes in the TOR route to check for rain damage on Sunday, no point planning a route if its not sustainable. Enjoy the canoeing, brrrr

Watersports at this time of year? you must be mad. Have a good time though. I am going to try figure out the routes on Google maps then plot them out on my TomTom using waypoints.

I've already got it onto a 1:25000, but its a bit old hat.

Did a recce this a.m. on Ramsdens, very little water damage since November, however there has been some repair work carried out on the climb just past the dam houses. Wonder why there was a Polic Video Van parked about half a mile into the lane from the Holm Moss end.
