I've already got a plan to use some unistrut to create a channel down each side, bolted as close to the edge and through the cross braces. That's not a real concern to me, just don't want to spend a grand on a tent if it's crap!

That's alot of cash....plus the tax makes it way overpriced.

Get the Terrrain one on eBay...they are in st leonards, Sussex.

Also get the one without the room you can attach and get an awning instead.. An awning works well in rain and the heat.

I have both and have tried them in torrential rain and the Sahara....top gear.

Am I missing something about the tax? Surely the price you see is the price you pay on ebay which £995 for this:

          http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=360500584667

The Terrain equivalent is more expensive at £1095:

As for the awning, I'm thinking of this:

          http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=390483895825

It's a lot of money but much less than the Fox Wing one. But you get a lot of coverage, has anyone used one? What's the quality like?

            .
I would second, the Terrain one.

I took a detour down to their place, on the south coast, on the way to Dover and Morocco.
I arrived with the roof bars on the back seat.
Took all of 10 minutes to put the roof bars on, and about an hour before I was on the road to Dover ferry.

I bought one a few years ago.
            No problems.
They have different sizes, and all the accessories.

            Think I paid £685 then.

I have since found out that they are all made in China, and they are about £290

I can't find the P.M. link, so can't P.M. you the information, and I am not sure it's quite etiquette to put it on the forum.

Thanks for the replies. I am bidding on a Howling Moon equivalent at the moment but if I don't win that I'll probably go for the Terrain one with the lower tent as it's only an extra £100 and I like to have options.

Is there any real benefit of canvas over synhetic as it's another £100 and added weight?

Synth drys quicker...... Forgot to say that the Terrain awning has a room that clips to it and rolls up nice and small. The back of the room has a zip for access to the truck. The room is big enough to cook and relax. The room that attaches to the tent has no space at all.

Also the howling moon has a wooden floor which is prone to cracking (water, heat, cold etc damages it) the Terrain is much better.

                        Roof Tent

We have a 4Runner and put a roof tent on Thule Roof bars and did 9k down to southern Morocco. While going through France in freezing conditions the outer cover took alot zipping up as it wasn't pliable. Once in Morocco condensation was terrible wetting sleeping bags and matress most nights. Once in the desert don't expect peaceful nights when it's windy, the flapping sides ensure a very noisy night. I couldn't wait to sell it when I got back after 2 months. My next trip to Mongolia will see me sleeping in the back no matter what I have to leave at home. Also think of security, if you need to leave in a hurry, you can't while the tent is extended. Try one out before you part with alot of money you might regret spending.

                              Thanks Boycie

What manufacturer of roof tent did you have? Was it canvaa or synthetic? These might make a difference.
