  • Found Stanage Edge this avo!!

So living in Derbyshire, and getting into this Off Roading malarky, i've been frustrated that i couldn't find Stanage Edge, the prob was, there's Stanage (Stone Edge) in Ashover (between Chesterfield & Matlock) which is where i've been looking, but Stanage Edge is in Hathersage, which is totally different!

Anyway, i founf it today, but was only by myslef so didint think it was a good idea to go all the way up, ealry evening and get stuck or worse! So i went bout half way up, and took some pics before turning back. It's defo a tricky one, and one that i/we will definitley be returning to in the near future!!

(hope i'm not boring people with all these pics, i'm just getting into it now!!

Yes, see, very tricky but i think we can do it in the surf!

That looks very familer, really good looking spot too.

I'd say you where right to follow the golden rule, never go alone.

Gotta be worth further exploration with another party though

Anyone planning on doing Stanage Edge please come down the track as there is a voluntary restriction on going up the track

I don't understand that. You're saying it's OK to come down on the track, but not to go up on it?

Probably so you dont have traffic squeezing round opposing traffic onto grass at the sides and cutting it up in damp weather.

Its an issue with some Welsh lanes too. Happy Valley is near impossible to pass on in places.

Stanage is one of the lanes really wanted to do but never did. Looks awesome - quite similar to Happy Valley by the look of it.

Ah, so it's a round trip thing? How would a restriction like that be policed; signs, I assume?

Perhaps it causes more damage to the lane going up it? Apparently some walkers and cyclists are trying to get it closed, some even through rocks at trucks going along it

I'm afraid if someone threw a rock at my truck they would live (or posibly not) to regret it!

I've heard lots of horror stories about people throwing things at 4x4s etc but in all my years of laning never had so much as a cross word with walkers, riders or cyclists. Most of the time they're even friendly.

The closest we ever got was an old dear leading a bunch of ancient looking ramblers taking photos of us and looking a bit disgruntled.

Having said that, I have seen lanes 'off piste' damaged beyong the point of repair (anyone see the 2ft deep, 2ft wide furrows cut in the grass up near the visitors book on the Wayfarer a couple of years back?) so its understandable they get p1ssed off if they think we're all hooligans isn't it?

Drive sensibly, stay on the lanes, obey the rules, and if anyone gives you serious grief report them to the police because it's them who are in the wrong.
