Bulford / Salisbury Monday 4th May

Hi all,

Should be getting my Surf back fixed on Friday, busy weekend, but not up to much on Monday. Anyone fancy trying to get stuck around the Bulford/Salisbury Plain area on Monday? I'm still really new to this, so not sure of the best places to go, but am happy to drive til Mud is found

Cheers for the link Bio, I've seen one of these documents before, but need a bit of clarification if that's ok?

Where it says "Non firing days on bulford ranges", does this mean:

a) Nothing is going on
b) Exercise is going on, but no live firing

Or does it mean something completely different?

Non fireing days are when the public may use the byways that go through the ranges , There may still be military activity , yes we have encountered a tank on more than one occasion , DO NOT stray from the permitted routes as the range wardens will have you as they are very strict , and have been getting alot of damage done , Also don't go alone as it is easy to get stuck on some of the byways , you may use some allweather roads too but i stick to the known byways .......


ALSO if gates are closed or the flags are flying do not enter

Yep, with you on all that...! Been a few times to Bulford, stick 100% to the permitted routes. Seen a few wardens, but where we're not silly they just wave and drive on. If flags are flying we turn round and do some green lanes closer to home.

Probably meet at the 4x4 place in Bulford around 10-11am. The one with all the rusty landrovers on the grass outside

The surf is fixed!!! Road tested, no oil leaks, they were just going to check the front wheel bearings for me this morning, but it will be ready for pickup tomorrow lunch time

The more the merrier though!

So far we have a couple of discoveries coming, and possibly a freelander. None of us have CB radio's though, we just use PMR walkie talkies. If it keeps raining like this should be a nice muddy/slippy day out!

Oh, one more thing to add is that we're real new at this, not expert off-roaders so I expect there will be plenty of getting stuck...

Really??? Bit extreme then?

Will definitely be taking it easy myself, for a surf that didn't cost me anything (it's my father in laws) it has so far cost me a grand in little over 3 weeks

£400 for tax/insurance/MOT, and now £600 for the oil seal and torque converter bush.

Could be worse though, my mate just spent £1,300 on a Discovery, so far he's destroyed the front bumper, snapped the cambelt (5 push rods bent) and knackered his prop shaft. And he still has the whole boot area to weld...

I just hope that the flippin gearbox doesn't die now that I've just forked out the cash...!

Don't worry only as extreme as you make it. Just wash that mud out as it sticks like concrete (My engine still seems to have a veneer of salisbury mud over it)

Oh it is I have breakdown cover with my bank, and my motorbike insurance, and the Surf insurance, so shouldn't have a problem
