    Hello all,

Ok, so I've never driven off road, but it looks like fun, so I'm keen to try a bit of off roading/green lanning in the surrey area.
I'd love to join in on a days green lanning. if anyone is planning a trip soon (its 26th Jan 08 now) i'd love to come along and learn the ropes with someone who knows the score and is happy to put up with a novice off-roader

please, let me know if there's anything happening!!

my Surf is a standard 94' 3.0 turbo ssx, will in need to bring/get any additional kit for a trip? i guess ill need a tow rope at least and a full tank. anything else that might be handy?

    cheers all.

If your startin tame, and going with someone you can make a note of the kit when your with them, but wellies tow rope, change of clothes, food, decent spare wheel, jacking equipment, and basic tools for starters.

With regards to truck, good A/T or M/T Tyres would be a big help, and perhaps a few inches on the suspension to help with clearance and water.

I cant help cos im in Scotland but im sure within a day or 2 someone will notice your post and arrange sumfin.

You have two options: greenlaning or a pay and play site. For both a tow-strap and two shackles is sufficient. Make sure you have tow hooks/recovery points. I always make sure the spare is inflated, I take blocks of wood for the jack to sit on in mud, I grease all grease-points and take basic tools, water , 2-way radios etc. I also take the tow-ball off. Expect to use your tow-strap if you have road-tyres and expect a few scuffs and minor scratches to side-steps, exhaust, etc.

            Welcome to the nuthouse CB,

You should look to get MT or AT tyres and an adversity to polish and cleanliness - because green laneing attracts the odd scratch or two (hundred) and you WILL get the truck muddy.

If you end up in a lot of mud try to get the fins of the rad washed out before you suffer overheating.

Every so often we have runs around Dorking which is good fun.

as graham (gwh200) said keep an eye out for a trip round kent somewhere soon(ish) i'm looking at sometime around the beginning of march now i think, be prepared for the odd scratch or two, most important thing to take with you though is someone who's got all the kit and a little experience.

If you're gonna go out and buy recovery gear find a local lifting gear supplier or machine mart and get yourself a 2 tonne lifting strop minimum 4 metres in length and a rated shackle or two (minimum 3.25 tonne, one 4.75 would be better if you're going to want to use a bridle and kinetic rope (snatch strap) in the future)
