  • Whoa - cheers Nina! Stunning pics - a nice little taster.

I laughed at the cloud of black smoke on one of the hills.

And I like the wing mirror one - like the Terminator in T2 - just when you think you're rid of me.

BTW chaps - the first sequence up that hill - well, just wait till you see how steep it is - fecking awesome.

    I think I've got Grahamitis - can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll put that post code into the Tom Tom:

Just arrived in the post, 4 x recovery strops, and 2 x bow shackles

The only problem is, that the shackles only have a gap of about 30mm, and I don't reckon they'll fit anywhere on the truck, Where is the best place to attatch them?

Oh, and one more question, anyone fancy giving me a hand to do a body lift, and rear sus lift, before the Wales trip??
          Rob

          Still working for the man!

We'll be there at about midday, so we get the best spot (big tent).....

Rob, there's a hook OSF on the front cross member that the 'hoop' on the strop will clip over. Then use shackle on the other end if you need it to attach to recover(y/ing) vehicle.

There's 2 (I think) tie down points either side of the under slung wheel, I use the OSR point with the shackle through it and the hoop of (my other) strop. Leave this fixed and then the strop can be fed through the side of the open tailgate and held in place when the tailgate is shut.

Thanks Fordy, but I don't have any hooks at the front, they were removed to fit the bull bar ( I think) but I'll have a look at the other places and see if that'll work for me.

I've done 4 body and suspension lifts - get the kit and if you leave Kent early, and get to this camp site mid afternoon we'll do it then.

The both lifts will take about 3 hours total if we all pile in - and you will be wielding a spanner (not just supplying tea)!!!

However - if you are going +2'' rear springs (Landcruiser?) it is very difficult to get the correct length shocks at the mo. Give me a call for a chat.

                  • I wont get there until evening as I have to pick Cal up from Shrewsbury first, then travel down the border to the site.

Tony has/had the TJM recovery hooks and should be able to tell you if they're a straight replacement or if you need to drill and fix to chassis.

I got my lift kit from TonyN. Check with him that the bolts supplied are 6 nr M10x160mm as 180mm's are a bit long (thread stops short). You don't want to find that out in the field. I took the lower rad shroud off completely, an easier option than dropping the rad IMO. Also to get the bumper back on I needed an angle grinder to cut 2 notches out of it so it didn't foul the lift brackets for the bumper. Not a problem, just get someone to bring a petrol Stihl saw if there's not a hook-up for the electric!

OK, had a look earlier on, and the shacles I have will fit on the rear chassis member, where there are a couple of 1 1/2" holes at the end of the members.

I will need to get the hooks and long bolts, as mine are gone, and the bull bar is attatched in there place.
If I refit them, I'll need bolts long enough to go through the hooks and bull bar mounts and into the chassis, I reckon about 3" long and the correct thread too.

It's all good, thanks to the guys here, I've ordered the lift kit and the L/C springs, and we'll fit them in Wales ( if I get there early enough) Thanks to The (very) Lovely Boyo.

Got recovery hooks thanks to Stormy, and I've got some new strops and shackles from screwfix, so I'm nearly sorted.

The new CB antenna will have to wait now for a couple of months, so the one I have will suffice for now, it's all about priorities, and recovery gear has to come first.

clive, iwould very seriously consider getting extended brake hoses as well,as the chance of ripping them/stretching them will increase with a lift.
i have to pick mark up on the way,but if we are early enough we can both muck in as well.
