Waterstones do a good range in OS maps. They should be able to supply you with the whole country if you need it you`ll need a good sized field to unfold them all out though....Or you could get hold of a copy of Memory map or Anquet to run on a laptop and works with GPS and a PDA
im looking at GPS also - while Sonys item has come down loads in price (£175 ish now) and is all very nice (reads your emails and planner etc) you have to plan your route on a PC! No good to me really... if anyone knows of a kit for a SONY CLIE PEG-TH55 please let me see (non Bluetooth is preferable)
thanks
Look for BOATs - Byways Open to All Traffic. And you might want to check with local authority for latest legal position, which can be constantly changing.
I use 1:50000 OS maps (Landranger series). The show slightly less info but it means carrying half the amount of maps! I've never had a problem negotiating BOATS and RUPPS with these, but now I've got a PDA its even easier!
Is the PDA running Windows or Palm OS? If its running windows then check out Memory-Map software www.memory-map.co.uk
It has 1:50000 scale maps of the entire country, and you just copy the portion of map that you want to the PDA. I use it all the time for laning.
Also check out http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/ for GPS antenna and PDA mounts. Mine cost me about £120 for the GPS antenna and PDA cradle. Even comes with a lead to power the PDA and GPS
yeah thats where im scuppered Danno - I run Palm OS5 on my Clie... started looking for Bluetooth now but i know that some early models had problems with the BT disconnecting on route. I think the Navman 4470 might work but i need to email some people.
Most of my info coming from that site anyway and a few others so cheers.
For the time being I can buy two maps i think for near me
