This month Tread Lightly volunteers, working with MOD, placed rights of way signs on: Coulston:
2, 13 & 14, Edington: 27, 28 & 29, Erlestoke 8 & 9, Great Cheverell:l 10 & 16, Little Cheverell 7 &
West Lavington: 7A, 34, 42. The Project UBIQUE team has now installed or replaced 266 rights of
way signs on SPTA. Next month they plan to start work on SPTA East.
TRAINING IN JUNE
Following several busy months June will be relatively quiet. The main activity will be between 7 –
21 June with 2
nd
Battalion The Parachute Regiment on Exercise WESSEX THUNDER using the
AWES weapons effect simulation system. 2 PARA are equipped primarily with light wheeled
vehicles however there will be some manoeuvre by a Warrior platoon acting as opposing forces.
During the last week of June Land Warfare Centre will deploy two exercises. Ex BADGERS HOLE
with 12 Scimitar CVRT will cover the whole Plain as will the Fire Support Group Ex HARD STRIKE.
Finally 19 Tank Transporter Sqn, with its Osh Kosh transporters, will practice recovery and
deployment in the East during the last 8 days of the month.
Live Firing. Firing is closely managed to ensure that legal noise limits are not exceeded and
disturbance is minimised. Although some may find the noise intrusive, it is well below legal limits.

AS90 Firing from Salisbury Plain East: Nil.
AS90 Firing from Salisbury Plain West & Tilshead, Chitterne, Shrewton triangle: Nil.
Complaints about Firing Noise should be made to (01980) 620819.
Military Flying. Helicopters, Hercules (C130) and fast jets may be active at any time. Fox Covert
& Everleigh Dropping Zones will be active for most of the period.
Complaints about low flying should be made to 0207 218 6020 or e-mail lowflying@mod.uk.
ACCESS
Access to Salisbury Plain is regulated by Salisbury Plain Military Lands and Bulford, Larkhill and
Imber Range Byelaws. This Newsletter is published up to 6 weeks before the event and urgent
training bids may come in subsequently. Always comply with local signs and flags.
Access timings can be found on the SPTA Walks Line: (01980) 67 4763.

Larkhill Ranges. Rights of way through Larkhill Ranges are closed when red flags are flying.

Imber Ranges. Difficult terrain and unexploded military debris makes it hazardous to leave the
tarmac roads. The public are excluded from Imber Ranges except when the roads are opened to
reduce journey times across Imber Ranges. It is planned to open roads through Imber as follows:

St Giles’s Day is celebrated each year with a church service in Imber. The opportunity has been
taken to open the roads that weekend. Unfortunately, due to essential road works, the road from
Imber to Joan a Gore Cross will not be open.
10 Nov (1000) 10 Nov (1200) Remembrance Day Church Service.
Only the road from Warminster will be open.
21 Dec (1600) 7 Jan (0800) Christmas and New Year
Notes.
1. Even when the roads are open the village remains out of bounds to the public.
2. These dates may change if operational training needs dictate.
3. Church opening times can be found at: www.imberchurch.org.uk
Provisional Dates for Future Major Exercises. During the following access may be restricted on
Larkhill Ranges and in the Chitterne – Shrewton – Tilshead Triangle north of the B390.

674700). The more information received the better e.g. time, place, vehicle registration, description
of individuals and vehicles. If a crime is taking place call 999 and do not challenge the offenders.
