14-18 May “Charlie Crossing” over the Avon will be closed while 22 Engineer Regiment conducts
bridging training. Those who use that permissive route should plan accordingly.
TRAINING IN MAY
May starts fairly quietly when Land Warfare Centre use Challenger tanks on Exercise FIRST VIEW
(2-3 May) and for the first two weeks a squadron of Challenger tanks (2 RTR) and a company of
Warrior armoured fighting vehicles (2 Royal Welsh) will train across the whole of Salisbury Plain.
13-23 May a Royal Netherlands Marine Corps 120mm Mortar Battery visit for their live firing camp.
During the last two weeks of May there will be:
Heavy use of the tank crossings on the Tilshead to Chitterne road, A360 and A345.
Some training noise during hours of darkness
Low flying by helicopters and fast jets.
21-24 May Ex LION'S STRIKE is on SPTA West and Larkhill.
26-27 May two hundred members of 4 PARA (V) and the US Army Reserve will make a series of
parachute drops on the Everleigh Drop Zone as a rehearsal for the D Day commemorations
28-31 May Ex SABRES THRUST will train across the whole Plain and the Royal School of Artillery
will conduct live firing which will include an AS90 artillery battery.
Note. There may be delays at tank crossings and drivers should take care when approaching
crossings as mud clearance parties and mechanical sweepers will be at work
Live Firing. Firing is closely managed to ensure that legal noise limits are not exceeded and
disturbance is minimised. Although some may find the noise intrusive, it is well below legal limits.
Late Firing on Larkhill Ranges: 1st, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 19th, 22nd, 24th & 29th May.
AS90 Firing from Salisbury Plain East: Nil.
AS90 Firing from Salisbury Plain West & Tilshead, Chitterne, Shrewton triangle: Nil.

Military Flying. Helicopters, Hercules (C130) and fast jets may be active at any time. Fox Covert
& Everleigh Dropping Zones will be active for most of the period.

Access to Salisbury Plain is regulated by Salisbury Plain Military Lands and Bulford, Larkhill and
Imber Range Byelaws. This Newsletter is published up to 6 weeks before the event and urgent
training bids may come in subsequently. Always comply with local signs and flags.

Larkhill Ranges. Rights of way through Larkhill Ranges are closed when red flags are flying.
No firing is planned for: 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 26th & 27th May

Bulford Ranges. Rights of way through Bulford Ranges are closed when red flags are flying.
No firing is planned for: 5th, 6th, 21st, 22nd, 26th & 27th May.
Imber Ranges. Difficult terrain and unexploded military debris makes it hazardous to leave the
tarmac roads. The public are excluded from Imber Ranges except when the roads are opened to
reduce journey times across Imber Ranges. It is planned to open roads through Imber as follows:
