  • Looking to raise my Surf

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I live near Glasgow in Scotland and hope to find a garage nearby to do the work but would like some advice from all you fellow surfers regarding this matter. What is the best way to raise the suspension even only a couple of inches all round would do and any idea of cost?

A guy in our company spent about £10k getting his Hilux raised and it now looks very smart except you need a ladder to get in it. Then there was the wheels he imported from the US and his respray.

Not really a road I would go down pardon the pun.

I could ask him the best place to buy your bits if that's a help.

Apparantley Millner off Road use to do mods but will certainly know where you can get the gear you need.

You can also get kits from LA Supertrux for most types of lift. They will fit too but not much to you in Scotland! If you have a look at the gallery on their website you can see what various lifts look like!

                Thanks for the advice

I have ordered my second mod for my surf, on top of my 18" sport alloys I now have the following 2" lift kit on its way :

                1984-97 Hi-Lux Mk2 & 3 - Heavy Duty Kit
Designed for applications where it is necessary to utilise the full load-carrying capacity of the vehicle, even off road. Six leaf front and seven leaf rear heavy-duty springs with urethane bushes and U-bolt kits, ES9000 shock absorbers & boots

                Lift F/R = 2.0"/2.0"

Thanks again for all the advice.

posted the wrong one on that oops, it was the Hilux surf kit I meant to post and when I spoke to the guy at expolrer 4x4 I asked him to put in the ES9000 shocks instead of the ES3000 all in all it cost me £405 inc vat & shipping and as of tomorrow the kit will be fitted ;-)
                      Sorry about the confusion guys.

Hello there how did you get on raising your surf? I live in west Dunbartonshire and am also going to raise mine. Did you put her in to a garage if so was it expensive? Also did you do a body lift? Also did you put a bigger set of wheels on if so what size?
I would be interested in hearing anything about it I’m planning to do mine early next year. Cheers Jase

All went well the back was raised first , it was the heavy duty springs and pro comp ES9000 shocks. Then came the front and it was again the Pro comp ES9000 shocks and upgraded torsion bars. I put it into a friends garage to get done and he did not want paid but gave him £50 for putting in the time. Although it was only a 2" suspension lift its amazing how high up you actually feel, next comes a body lift but that will be next year for that. I live in east dumbartonshire in a place called kirkintilloch so I'm not far away from you, there seems to be more and more Surf's appearing out here since I got mine just a few months ago.

I have successfully raised my suspension by 2" and have to say I want to go higher still but cannot afford to buy the body lift kit yet because of the time of year. I have been told to put bigger tyres on the 16" sport wheels that are on my Surf with 265/75/16 tyres, anyone know if this can be done? Also what presure has my existing tyres to be at? Also thinking of buying bigger wheels maybe next year with the 2" lift in mind anyone know the max size of wheels that would fit without any problems?
