  • Stainless steel exausts

Hi i am currently having a stainless steel exhaust system priced and probably made for my 2nd generation 2.4TD surf, my brother works for a company in Devon and they were keen to find out if there was a possibly demand, would reduce the price, or could make a batch for people interested.

If anyone wants more information or is interested then let me know, the box's they make come with a guarantee so are of reasonable quality, (they make JCB box's) I had one made by them on my Saab 900 which they modified to a sports system and didn’t cost much more than a standard mild steel system.

    My e-mail is keithchanning40@hotmail.com

Keith, happy surfer hopefully with a nice stainless system!!

While they are making it custom, could they make ones in custom size, eg. 3" from the turbo down and 2.5" back from the downpipe. Sure there would be some interest as this is a well known power boost and heat reducing modification.

    Cheers

i expect that they can make any changes we require, at the moment i am having the rear section costed, they do stainless flexi but havent asked about the turbo to flexi yet as it is being priced as a one off, am sure they would be more helpfull if they saw other interest from surfers for a stainless replacement, havent found any one else offering a stainless system. let me know if i am wrong.

What size is the fitting on the turbo? do we need a reducer from the exaust to the turbo if we use 2.5" or 3" pipe?

A few people have had stainless systems fitted, so there is the interest. They all need to be custom made as you can't seem to get even a mild steel one for the 2.4 except from Milners and Roughtrax. None of the big exhaust places do one off the shelf. Nearest match that will fit is the V6 petrol one which needs slight modification.

The current exhaust is 2" I think all the way from the Turbo back, however by taking the fitting off the standard and grinding out some clearance on it I think you can fit a 3" pipe to it. You then need a reducer at the rear of the front pipe (dump pipe) to reduce it down to 2.5".

I am thinking of having one made nearer to me by pipecraft or John Woolfe Racing. Think the interest will definately be there though.

I think I have some pictures stored somewhere of the various parts and the fitting - I'll see if I can dig them out.

        Cheers

I for one, am very interested in this thread.

Heat reduction in the transmission tunnel (could do with that).
Slight performance increase, because the turbo can exhaust better (could do with that).
Stainless Steel, longer lifespan(could certainly do with that).

3" downpipe from the Turbo, 2.5" straight through with two box's to bring the noise down to an acceptable level. Exit, such that fumes don't get in through the open rear window... (straight out, passenger side - behind wheel)

          2nd Gen 2.4TD (2LTE), snap...

HI mate i just got a quote for a custom stainless system with 4" jap tail on it at 340 from Long Life , they use a realy high grade stainless steel which they give a life time garuntee for, most other places use crap stuff from africa which on a deisel will start rotting in a couple of years.

It's on my list of things to do. So if they can come up with something like Lucky has described would definately put my name down for one.

What sort of discounted price could they offer, and what sort of response would they need from forum members?
