  • Another 30mm Wheel Spacer Thread

    Hey,

I've searched here and nobody seems to have covered my query.

I'm going to finally put my gloss black alloys on the truck. But I love the offset of the current steelies and wanted to recreate that with the 30mm spacers I bought a while back.

However, when on the front they take up the whole hub so there's only the hub cover for the alloy to centre too. But loads of yous use them.

What's the opinion on the wheel not actually being on the hub? Doesn't seem right

    Positive or negative offset?

Wheel says +10 and it does look canny positive. Hence wanting to add the spacers.

Which may cause leverage. But it's the whole not being on the hub thing. That's regardless of offset as it just seems dodgy. In my ignorance.

I hate spacers and will never use them, had and seen far too many issues with them.

I see what you are saying know, that your concerned with the extra leverage being forced on the hub yes?

Personally I would not be concerned at all.

Look at some of the really wide tyres and wheels people fit, they will be adding extra leverage to their hubs by doing so.

I have 30 mm spacers on mine and sporting some goddam sexy wheels and rubber and if the hubs fall off I will let you know

My spacers and studs are engineered, plus the actual hub studs and fixings were replaced when I fitted them.

Of course if your spacers are made of cheese then you may have issues.

            Ah...so you have some on

My point was the spacers take up the whole hub so the wheel is basically relying on the spacer and the nuts being central to not cause any vibrations etc. Leverage is a concern but not as much as the potential imbalance.

So did you find there was no wobbly or balance issues? Are your spacers a tight fit over the hub?

Mine are fitted using conical nuts which centre the hub in, well, the centre.
No wobble or other wierdness reported from the chief test driver swmbo who used it daily on a combination of fast A roads and motorway

There is a space of probably 2 maybe 3 mm betwwen the hub oter and the spacer inner, but that is from memory not a definite.
Have a look at this wheel /tyre combo, I know its on a SAS but still.

Mine have about 1-2mm space. They seems to be 110mm ID and should really be 108MM ID.

I might give them ago and see. Not decided yet. But I love the wider look.

I have had spacers fail on a road truck (3gen) and on an off road toy.
Better to buy proper offset wheels. I wouldn't let my kids or wife drive with spacers.
Only an opinion but your question showed concern and I say you should be from personal experience.

If I don't use them I'll put them up for sale.

But I might then also put these alloys up for sale, too. No point in spending £100 swapping tyres over only to not have the stance I want.

                      Decisions decisions.

                      ps. Cheers, all
