Hi guys, this is my first post. I have a 92 2nd gen 2.4td ssr-x, which i absolutely love. I've had it since november last year. I'm contemplating buying a 2" lift kit from rough trax, what else would i need, if anything. Also what would be the pro's and cons of this lift.
My pal has a 2.8 pajero exceed, and we're always arguing which is best, i've got the top gear boys to back me up, which he hates. But he recently directed me to youtube, any thoughts. Thanks very much guys.

    Welcome to the forum.

Before the Elders jump on you take a look at trying the search button and have a look. There's a lot of info on the site so it might take a minute to find what you need but there is very little that has not already been discussed before.

From memory what you NEED would be +2" lift springs and a tweak of the torsion bars.

What you may WANT is slightly different; you can drop the diff to aid the CV angles, you can either drop the panhard rod to flatten it out to fix the rear geometry and centre your axle again or lengthen the one you have (which will centre the axle at rest but actually make it worse on travel) but those things aren't NEEDED, just some people, like myself, wanted everything back where it should be.

If you need anymore help then check back.

    Cheers,

    Ray.

      hello welcome

Are you going to lift it to fit bigger tyres?

I think the Surf driver can't drive, the Paj guy just waits on the brakes till the Surf is spinning its wheels so has no traction and just drives backwards.

Personally I can't why anyone would want to ruin their transmission playing tug of war. All these utube vids of X vs X are pointless.

The 2" suspension lift has very few cons, its good. You can only reliably get 1 1/2" out of the front though, any more wthout additional work will tear CV gaiters and wear CV's.

If you have any wear in the steering components, fitting the lift will exaggerate any issues, so you may find you need to replace TRE's, idler Arm or Ball Joints later on.

You need to get the Toe in/out reset after doing lift.

Looks to me like the surf was only spinning the rear wheels so he probably wasnt even in 4wd! I would still rather have a Surf over a shogun/pajero any day. Looks better, and will still be working long after the Mitsubishi has died a death.. ;0)

          Cheers,

              Thanks Guys

Many thanks for the replies guys, i don't want to come across as awkward or anything, but i've searched not only this forum, rough trax, hilux-surf.eu, etc, and i've learned a lot, but i'm no way mechanically minded, so i thought i'd ask the people who'd know.
All i was going to do was buy the lift kit, put it in the garage for a mechanic to do the lift. I didn't want to put it in, then the mechanic tell me i needed something else, so my apologies if i've come over wrong. This is the kit i was thinking of.

I was thinking of putting bigger tyres on, but think i'll just leave it alone, my head's spinning now. LOL.
The hilux has some reputation though, thrilled to bits with mine, really appreciate your replies guys.

If you just wish to make your truck taller the cheapest way is to fit a body lift - Xpajun make them (on ebay) for about £60 but they don't come with bumper or rad brackets - TonyN can make you the whole set of everything for anbout £100 I think - then it's just a case of getting it fitted!
