bennefits of an intercooler

hi all
could anyone tell me the bennefits of fitting an intercooler on a 2.4 surf.
what runs through it air ?, i have foung some treads but an getting lots in it all

intercooler cools the air betweent he turbo and the cylinders. the idea is that as you cool the air, it is denser, thus there is more oxygen in the cyclinder when you get combustion.

ive no idea how that would effect the ECU driven engine though!

my 3 litre intercooled 3rd gen is the bogs dollox!
