  • 3rd gen roof bars.

Because of how shite Royal mail are, I had nothing to do this week-end, so I made some roof bars for the 3rd gen.
    For the bars.....
    30mm X 20mm mild steel box section, 4ft long. X 2.

    for the roof channel attachments.....
    25mm X 25mm box section, four pieces @ 30mm long.
    34mm X 25mm X 3mm flat bar, four pieces.
    M10 X 40mm bolts/washers.
    9mm drill bit.
    M10 X 1.5 tap.

    Black chassis paint.

Some yellow plastic bar ends that I salvaged from an old mangled, rusty set of bars.

The paint isn't dry yet on the other bar.

Yep, but you'll have to find your own plastic end pieces though.

Forgot to mention, all you need is a 17mm socket to fit/remove them.

Haven't really worked it out yet, but they'll be roughly 30 quid per pair plus post.

Sure, I'll have to order some box section first though.
I'll make another couple of pairs and if no interest on here or next door, I'll flog 'em on Ebay.

                      me too.
can you make the supports a bit higher, say 10cm? yours look a little close to the roof.

How have you attached it to the roofrails?

I've also been playing around with this lately and have used the "Z" clips as previously mentioned in older posts as fasteners to the rails.
As they're related to the electrical industry I can get hold of of them easily.

I was going to do away with the feet and bolt a box section straight to the channel using them with spacers.
After all , why do you need to place them higher up? you never store anything under the bars...

I've welded a nut inside the 25mm x 25mm box section 'feet' and drilled through the bars for a M10 X 40mm bolt with a blind grommet covering the hole when the bars are fixed in place.

They work well, as do the uprated springs, the truck 'feels' more sprightly now.

Looks very tidy with the box on mate.

Is that where craig gets stored.
