  • Recent pic of the Turbo Washer mod?

Hi, are there any recent pictures where the washers go on the washer mod for the turbo boost for a 2nd Gen? The search button finds plenty of posts all over the place but all of the pics to go with them have, at some point, expired or been removed.

Can anyone post up a pic please?

    Thanks,

    Ray.

    Hi Ray, I did this 2 weeks ago - boosted my turbo from 7psi to 10psi - i used a 1.7mm washer.

    Link is here:

You should use a boost gauge - i bought one off ebay for £20

No worries - I'm thinking of putting in a manual boost controller instead - about £25 off ebay, This washer mod gives you more boost but the wastegate still opens at about 2-3psi - it'll be interesting to see what happens when a proper (ish) controller is installed - i'm not after mega speed I just want to be able to go up hills!

Can a similar thing be done to a 3rd Gen?
          Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)

Yeah, me too, I'm never gonna be able to enter a drag race in the old girl but at keast when I'm 5 up with camping gear, bikes and surf boards I might be able to reach a decent speed in under half an hour!!

              OK, Update!

I've fitted the washers (2mm total) and I'm going to go for a drive and post back later!

If for any reason the engine light comes on do I need to reset it or do anything or can I just switch off and back on again to clear it and then put in thinner washers?

I don't know the answer to that one - I'd like to know though beacuse I am planning a manual boost controller and am worried about overboosting - I guess its a case of resetting the ECU by disconnecting the batteries.

Hello again, the engine didn't blow up and I didn't have to walk home so that's a good start!

I didn't have any engine lights come on so which is also good!

The difference isn't earth shattering but it's definately better at holding it's speed up hills and accelerating once you are 2k+ RPM.

Is there a guide for where to attach the T-piece for the boost gauge and where do you think it should go on the dash?

                  Thanks.

                    To install the boost gauge:

                    http://toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/boostguage.htm

I went in to point B and mounted the gauge in the same place as in pic (roughly) I get a bit of light reflection from the windscreen but i can live with it.

Sorry Smego, I'm not ignoring you but I don't know the answer - as far as I'm aware there is no reason you can't install a manual boost controller as these seem to work for all Turbo cars but I'm not sure about the washer mod - I'm going to try a MBC in my 2nd gen (but I'm skint at moment)

Now it's had time to change things around in the ECU (I'm assuming takes time) it's got even better. Definately improved acceleration and speed holding on hills.

I've got to get and fit a boost gauge now so I can keep an eye on it
