  • uprated torsion bars

Hi there, anybody know where I can buy uprated torsion bars as one of mine seems to be buckled and if Im gonna replace them it seems comom sense to uprate them...also I'm gonna be doing some serios offroading when my lift is complete. Called Barry at Rough Trax but they only sell the standard ones.

    Cheers

try Lasupertrux and see what Nigel has got.
I got a 5" lift on my truck and running 33x12.5x15's and still on standard t/bars.I have really abused my truck off road and the t/bars have and still are ok.

Thanks m8, already done my lc spring lift at the the rear and my 2" body lift, just waiting on my bj spacers from Neil at outrageous and i'm about ready to go. Just thought I'd go the full hog, and replace the bars as well but if its not really necessary I'll probably not bother.

      Thanks again

sometimes the uprated bars can be a sod to fit.I did mine on my old 2.4 and they were a nightmare to fit.The only time i would fit uprated ones is when i fit the bigger lift to fit the 39s i got here to go on

Like I said in my original post Rough Trax DO NOT do an uprated totrsion bar only the American spec which Barry informed me were UK standard...oh to live in America or Australia, everything on your doorstep so to speak.

That differs from what their website implies.

Uprated bars are not worth the time or money.
Never had a standard bar fail on any lifted surf I have owend or lifted for someone else.
Even thou these trucks are abused in heavy offroad settings monthly.

It dosent state that the torsion bars are UPRATED anywhere on the website, thats why I called Barry direct to make sure..These are just STANDARD bars but with an American spec.

i got a +2" suspension lift kit form rough trax this time last year got LC springs for the back E9000 shocks front and back and uprated TB to give the front 2"+ lift also. i think they are desert fox TB when compared them to the standard TB they were thicker in diameter the the front rose more than the back.

so unless barry has diddled me

http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=11&cid=150 does say uprated TB but sold out????

Unless they exactly match the design and spec of the original OEM bars fitted to the Surf, they are not 'standard'. You can argue this point forever and a day. You'll still be incorrect, unless what is listed in the Rtrax description is complete bumph. Everything has to be designed to a certain spec. Whether that spec is standard somewhere else is irrelevant. It's not the same standard as the kit they're replacing.

You do realise that the front suspension of your truck with an all aluminium V8, thats nearly half the weight of the diesel lump, is going to be rock hard, don't you?

it did cross my mind about the weight of the V8 engine compared to the diesel i had. i couldnt find the weight of either anywhere on the net and thought they are probably the same if anything the V8 will be lighter slightly? i will probably have to loosen them a bit has have them wound up tight at the moment.
