live front axle into surf???????????????

hi everyone, my mate has a toyota pickup, he has a live front axle where a son my surf i dont, cna i fit a live axle to mine and what are the benefits/dissadvantages and mostly is it possible, basically i want a smuch lift and traction as i cna as im really gettin into offroading now and i wnat all the help i can!! many thanks
