  • help wanted in DEVON for BEERS (note plural)

Hi Guys, New to the forum, lovin my surf, and want to mod it already!!!

    Its a 1993 2.4td SSR-X

I want to try and give it a 2" body lift, and a 2" suspension lift all in a weekend, and for as little money as possible. Is that possible????

I have great workshop facilities and all the tools you could possible need including welding equiment, Jacks, cutting gear and much much more.
(see my website for details www.phoenix-coachworks.co.uk )

The only thing i am lacking is 4x4 knowledge!!

Perhaps i should explain, i am a bodywork and paint man, not a mechanic.
I am quite capable but i really don't fancy taking on all this by myself. I need to get it done in a weekend cos its my daily driver.

I was planning on making the body lift spacers from 50mm box section, i can fabricate the bumper and rad brackets on the day. But I would need to know the exact sizes of the 10 bolts as i can get them from my supplier, Anybody know the sizes?

I would buy new springs for the rear, but i have no idea how the front torrison bar works. Also need info on what else i will need to change and how, fuel filler, steering etc etc....

So if anyone is willing, give me a call 07918 646454 and maybe we can do a deal?? Beer or maybe some bodywork/welding/painting ????

Give supersurf a shout as he is in Plymouth and he may be able to help you out.
The torsion bars are easy enough and you shouldn't have to change anything to much.It will be able to be done in a day no problem.I would come up on a weekend if it helps at all but i would need plenty of notice

yeah easy enough to get the whole lot done in a day, specially with access to a full workshop, we done plumb bob's on my drive in a day a few weeks ago.

give all the bolts and stuff a few squirts of WD40 in the days leading upto it to make it even easier. Tools to make it dead easy is an impact wrench, maybe a deep 14mm? socket and or a go-through socket set.

I intend to do the same with mine but I'm in no fit state to do it myself, mine has the 2 inch lift on the rear & just needs the front sorting & then I'll think about the body lift, How many spacers are there that need to be fitted for the 2 inch body lift?
        I'm not a complete idiot.......

10, one behind the front bumper, one in the front footwell, one just behind the front seats, one at the edge of the rear seats, and one under the boot floor, on each side.

all the ones inside have a plastic cover under the carpet that you just prize out to reveal the top bolt, and to get at the one behind the front bumper the bumper (and therefore any bull bars etc.) need to come off.

I've survived doing two body lifts now, no really survived dropped the truck on my head With some advanced notice, I can travel over to help out. Someone else will probably correct me, but I'm not sure if box section would be best to use. Would reckon you'd be better off using 50mm diameter solid bar and drilling a hole for the body fixing bolt to go through.

Sorry to hijack your thread Bazzo.
Where's the best place to purchase one of these fine lift kits? & what sort of price will I be expected to pay for one?

                  Cheers

Thanks for the offers guys, Ive been doing some deals with supersurf on a few bits, He's a great guy, (bit mental mind you!! have you seen what he does to his truck?) But i think he is probably real busy weekends and as he does this sort of thing as a business i would not like to impose on him!

I was hoping for someone real local (exeter) to pop up as i dont like to put peeps out. Any advise on the following would be great.

                    1. Rear springs- no problems there im quite happpy to do
                    2. Front torison bars - Hmm.. need some pics and detailed instructions
                    3. Body lift - Happy to do with a little help or advise..
Do i have to extend gear shift (Automatic) ???
What size bolts do i need to get?
what will i have to extend apart from the rad brackets?

Apart from the fuel filler & steering column linkage is there anything else that needs to be taken off or loosened? what about the bumper & radiator?

Sorry Bazzo I'm doing it again but I'm sure between us we'll get all the answers.

                      Cheers

                        Hey no problem Ian,

You may be able to help me out...
If you are intending on buying a kit i would love to get some measurements
from it.. Ideally i need the sizes of the bolts.

Do you have decent facilities to do the work? I know people have done it on thier driveways, but i have loads of room, nice flat surface, all the tools, heating and plenty of bacon sandwiches and coffees!!

Maybe we could get together at my workshop and do them both together??

my contact details are on my website www.phoenix-coachworks.co.uk
                        if you fancy it.

Bazzo, It sounds ideal but due to health problems I don't think I could do it or I'd be there in an instant, I have a spinal injury & arthris in most joints so pulling about of tight nuts & bolts leaves me in agony plus I can't stay on my feet for long either, I can't see me being much help in a wheelchair, I'm gutted now as I would have really liked to have got mine done too.

                              Cheers
