  • Cr@p articulation; where to get disconnects?

I had two days away with AMOR in Surrey this weekend. While I enjoyed most of it I did get annoyed at one axle twisting section that my longer wheelbase and crap articulation had me wheel spinning and the 90, Disco1, Disco2, Fourtrak and GWagon strolled up it. I had to be towed over the ridge by the Disco2

I had a similar experience going up Stanage Edge, although I did manage that using my own steam after a few attempts

So yesterday I took off the rear ARB, but with the TJM suspension it is scary around corners and it's going back on again.

Does anyone do disconnects? Has anyone here fabbed and fitted their own? I've found a few links on yotatech but the only commercially available disconnects I've found are WabFab but these are for the front. I don't know if these will do rear as well.

Anything else that will help articulation? Cut down bump stops? Ideas?

On the plus side on a massive mud hole that the 90, Disco and GWagon all went hilariously sideways I walked through it. The 90 owner had got out the camcorder waiting for a comedy moment and was really p!ssed off when there wasn't one

Trim the front bump stops so the wishbones move further up and down, but you won't gain much.

The IFS is a big limit on articulation, all the other trucks you mentioned have a beam front axle, and you'll never get anywhere near them for front flex with IFS.

No ARB's or disconnects are essential if you want the get it moving as far as poss. You can cut the links, and sleeve them with a bit of tube held in place on the road with R clips on drilled holes, for a budget disconnect.

To be honest, you will never get the front flex of a 90, Disco1, Disco2, Fourtrak and GWagon (especially as the Gwagon has diff locks all round if it does lift a wheel) with a IFS Surf, you'll just have to live with it, and buy lockers to keep traction with onewheel in the air to keep up.

Personally, we just binned the ARB's and drive slower round corners.

R clips are what, 2mm diameter? Is that strong enough?

I really didn't like it on my test drive, it was a massive difference and very wallowy.

But I'm taking it to Shire Land Rover Club in Romsey next weekend so will see if I get used to it on the journey there and back....and take it very easy

Hopefully its more mud holes than axle twisters or I might break something

                          Thats the one!!!

Seems pretty simple, its just a lot of up/down mud/water!

a LOT of american trucks use it for offroad stuff. Theres nothing to extreme.

if you need clarification of where it is - come to mine an i'll take you there mate!

Thanks Rod, I'm actually truck camping in a friends garden on the Saturday night with a load of LR's and we'll be going in convoy on the Sunday. So I just have to follow the trail of fluids and flaky metal

If I have the time I would like to meet up. It would be good to meet you and nice to see your TJM bumper in person Would you mind pm'ing me your mobile and I ring you Sunday?

a quick question, what suspension lift do you have, notably on the front?
                              Non intercooled nothing.
