Old Man Emu shocks

Hi Folks,
I purchased an Old Man Emu steering stabiliser (cheaper than the procomp one from Explorer) and am considering using their shocks. Has anybody fitted OME shocks, are they only available in one size? From what I gather, the rear shocks are designed for their 40mm springs (which are available in HD or MD).
If that`s the case then am I right in thinking they will be suited to my 38mm coil-spacer lift with uprated Milners springs?
I think the front shocks are also only available in one size but are heavy duty and make use of the full 40mm IFS travel. Do they give a small lift on the front?
Any experience of OME shocks anybody?

OME Shocks

best way to describe OME shocks? Brilliant.

Made my 75 series landcruiser almost comfortable to drive in on the road, and made it awesome on the long dirt track drives (8 hours+) for camping at the weekend.

by the way, I'm in outback australia, and most of the guys here swear by OME kit. the rear springs can be a bit hard though - they expect you to carry tons of kit so they make them harder...

The shocks are beautiful for ride quality though.

I`ve fitted rear ones now too and they are great on the road. Anti roll bar removed I have less body-roll than the std. shocks on hard setting but they soak up the road-bumps better! Had a session at the quarry yesterday and they were superb. Back wheels hardly left the ground.
Next on shopping list is the front shocks!

I bought OME's for my 4runner, they've lasted 4 years of crap roads and dirt tracks so:

OME N72F Front Shocks (£65.00 plus VAT and P&P)
OME303003 Torsion bars (£120.00 for the pair)
OME SD33 Steering Stabilizer

OME N98 Rear Shocks (£65.00 plus VAT and P&P)
OME 901 HD Coil Springs (£55.03 plus VAT and P&P)

I was lazy, I had Frog's fit them at the same time as the snorkel and bullbar about 4/5 years ago.

The front OME shock part # for the Surf/4Runner is OK even if you have 1.85'' BJ Spacers.

The rears are a little short for my taste. If you put the rear OME's for Toyota 80 Series you'll have nicer rear wheel travel. Don't remember about the brake line, I broke mine undoing it so I put another one longer.

No OME shocks but simillar size on the rear:

Whatever you do, do NOT buy the cheap copies known as Old Man Emo shocks.

They just sit under the truck looking miserable, and wont work before about 3pm.

what are your rear shocks? and how many inches bigger are they? and where did you get them from?

They were Rancho RS9000X, IIRC they were for a Ford F-250.

I just undid the shocks, take the forklift at work and lifted the rear wheel. Then measured the compression and the extension and tried to get a shock with the max extension with the compression measurement as a limit.

Rancho have a nice PDF with the shock sizes. Anyways, the OME for Toyota LC80 series (Rear ones) are longer too and work OK with 4Runners/Surfs.

Hi Folks,
OME shocks are also available from TBR uk. The surf/4runner shocks are suited to their own springs which are 1.5 inch above std. I have the surf OME shocks fitted to Milner uprated springs and 1.5 aluminium spacers.
They are not suited to your vehicle if you have a more than 1.5 inch lift but will be fine if you have no lift. I have found them superb so far and run my mud tyres at 40psi on the motorway and it`s such a smooth ride. Off-road they seem to flex quite a bit and I`ve got as much artic. as I can get.
