  • 2" lift parts?

right then after the MOT stuff (includes changing front shocks to +2" ones from roughtrax) I am hoping to lift the surf a little (not too much as mum will kill me lol!) so I think +2" is about right bearing in mind it will keep the side steps! and 31's.

am I right on the parts required which are the following:
crank the original torsion bars (how much on the thread for 2"),
fit +2" shocks (oil) all round,
    fit +2" springs from roughtrax.

    and thats it?!!?

reason is despite the fact it is on 31's and the diff clearance is fairly good (good as landies!) following some tracks on various AWDC events I marshall on (inc scorpion challenge) I get worried that it is going to damage the sills or get hung on the front diff so a suspension lift is in order.

which I assume on a IFS lifts the diff as well as the whole car.

so how easy is it? what dangers (apart from making sure the wheels hang freely on the front when cranking), what should I look out for?? etc.. etc.....

    thank you for any replies.
    Jon

If you want a little very cheap wind the bars to get 1.5" = 2" cost free
    2" spring spacers cost £60.

measure wheel center to arch lip wind bars and recheck

aye about the front that is about right, but why spacers?? why not go for 2" springs?

it will do a lot of road miles (despite it being on kuhmo KL71's) in between comp safari and challenge event marshalling (can get quite rough!)

not sure what the new springs are like from roughtrax but the old ones would only lift a max of 1.5".Why not go fo a 2" body lift instead

the spring spacers are ok as long as your springs are good and not sagging

            hehe

for the price of the springs I want to go suspension lift rather than body (shock price is irrelevant as I need to replace the shocks anyway as the mot guy said it would fail on the fronts so new ones coming)

suspension also aids a little flex doesn't it (with es9000 shocks)?? and as for stability and the COG surely a lifted truck with a stiffer better handling is better than a body lifted truck with the same old quite soft handling (body weight is still a fair bit especially with 4 people sitting inside + 40kg dog + extras).

and I won't fit spacers as I am dubious to the state of the rear springs as Sometimes after carrying heavy loads in the boot it seems to rise a little than standard (when empty) about 24h later! only on the rear!? about 3/4-1" so new springs might be better and shocks.

really it is to aid clearance when off roading to bits underneath

You might be a newbie, But your gettin the hang of this pretty quick aint ya!!

Your pretty much right, a suspension lift will normally try an compensate by being stiffer - Whilst it does lift the engine also so that will have a knock on effect.

Most guys on here run a combination of both - body and suspension lifts. Its the easiest way to achieve enough height to run larger tyres which is of course what gives you more off road clearance.

Some guys run the LC80 rear springs in the surf, gives approx 3" of lift - ive heard they dont sit 100% i dont have them so my opinion is really nothing more then hot air! - for the LC80 springs contact 'milner offroad'

Your standard torsion bars can be easily adjusted to give you lift up front.

I would guage opinions on the LC80 springs vs. Roughtrax +2" springs. Then fit Pro Comp ES9000 +2" shocks all round. If you can afford a bit more the TJM shock absorbers are a better shock.

cheers, I have lurked a bit and read up a little.

shocks will do as they are as cheap is good after buying an exhaust middle box and new front shocks, brake pads, etc.... so rear shocks and +2" springs will do (not 3" as I have only just got mum round to the idea of a 2" lift hence the reason for keeping sidesteps!).

                cheers for the advice guys.
will do pics of before and after

also any idea as to the reason why it has "magic lift!" at random times (always after carrying loads or off roading!?)

No idea about the magic lift bit

                    How old are you mate?

Do i have a contender for youngest surfer?

Kind of suggests something in the suspension is binding, dragging the suspension back to a particular place. Bushes tightened when the suspension wasn't at the right position possibly?

After you've loaded it more than normal maybe it rebounds further than normal, then after a while settles back to its comfort zone?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Basically the rear shocks are cattle trucked!

I have Landcruiser springs and adjusted torsion bars with 31/10.5/15 tyres to give you an idea of the amount of lift.....

you might want to think about getting manual locking hubs on the front later as with the torsion bars cranked up ,you will eat cv gaiters as the drive shafts rotate when not in 4wd and are engaged in the front diff .....

also if you carry alot of weight about the +2" lift springs sag quicker and i ended up with coil spacers as well, you would be better off with the uprated springs from milners and coil spacers
