That sounds extreme to run WVO why not just make Bio instead ? Been looking at fitting a LR 110 tank just to increase the range the fuel filler seems to be the hardest part going to show this thread to a mate and hope he can sort me out a filler.
    Great write up.

I'm well impressed John, ya dont hang about do ya, that metro expansion tanks does look like it's supposed to be there, an improvement on bj's drainpipe one i think, some of my best insperation was done in bed
Wish i was a bit more "up" in the use of relays etc, i did manage a system to switch my cooling fans, intercooler fan and water pump (not rigged for auto yet) useing a standard relay to switch a 5 pin crossover relay, via a thermo switch from CPC, with much help and pestering of MattF, Drew the diags so i could understand em, an electricion would prob have a fit some good pic's cheers, seems to me the 3lt has more room under the hood than the 2,4, may be wrong but they always look less cluttered than mine (even before i started adding stuff), where to put a swirl tank was one of my problems, even though of inside the front wheel arch on the n/s (nearest to the IP) but with the 33's on thats buggered it,
i noticed you said you are useing a pollok valve, thats wot i got (but never used it yet,) do you find it ok?, got put off when i read on a landy site that some blokes pollok disintergrated and bits got into the IP and stuffed it, plus i thought the one i have looks sort of "cheap", just wondered,
      keep up the good work

Dean, it's is probably extreme but if he's owt like me he enjoys makeing the stuff as much as useing it, since the price os svo shot up thats wot i was gonna do, just join the tanks together for range but i'll prob never be able to afford to fill em both up anyway so sod it, that why i got disheartened and never finished it, if you do the filler neck mod done forget which tank you've filled up

        Twin tank iller

I remember posting pics of my twin filler but I cant remember where I posted them. This thread is getting too long to keep going back to read.

There is a lot more work and expense to making bio than just filtering WVO.
OK so you have to buy the tank and pump and heaters and filters but you do for bio anyway. Then you have to buy dodgy chemicals at stupid prices. The wife wont let me put anything in her Citroen C3Td anyway.

Naa, if you have a car that will take it (Surfs) then just filter. Invest a little money to start just to make the process easier and reap the benefit for years to come.

Popeye is right I have to make it just to prove I can. I would love to go on scrapheap challenge cuz thats me to a tee.

If you need any small electronics done Popeye I will do it and post on to you just for the parts/postage cost. Small bits like relays are available from the scrapyard for virtually free and I have lots of electronic junk in the loft.
My swirl tank cost about £3 in total.
I have attached a wiring diagram for the reed/relay circuit.

I have given up trying to find the wire from the existing tank sender to the fuel gauge. I found a thick red/yellow wire and a thin red/yellow wire with dots on but no yellow/red wire.
I have only got one of those crappy Australian workshop manuals I bought for the 2,4 to go by maybe its not even yellow or red.
I am going to get a landy gauge from ebay and have two fuel gauges.

On the 3ltr the turbo is way down the side of the engine much lower than on the 2.4. The space where I put my tank was the only space not filled. I have no idea where I am going to put my jars of Browns Gas (oxygen and hydrogen) now. Remove a battery??? HEHE

          pollock valve

          Sorry I forgot.
I have had my pollock valve fitted for some time now but only switched to the one tank until now.
I think they are great, the good thing is once they have switched the stay in that position even when the power is off unlike simple solenoid valves.

I dont think I would consider buying an expensive German one until this one failed and then I might still buy a pollock.

            Twin Filler neck

            Hi Girdles.
Just remembered where I posted my twin filler neck.
Try this link it in the middle of the thread.
Dont know how to paste to the exact reply. But its on page 7...

              Tank sender wiring

Does anyone know the colour of the wire from the tank sender to the instrument panel. ????
I assume it is in the cable group running just inside the drivers door under the carpet.
But will be the same as on the top of the tank. Anyone got a tank lying about who is willing to have a look for me???
              PLEASE.

Thanks for the link to the fuel filler.
I can understand the making things to prove it bit. you but with the ability you have at knocking things up and the centrifuge Wvo filter I thought the bio route would have been easier. I have 2 X 205ltrs Wvo filter system pretty much along the lines of the one you show we filter and use a bit of Wvo.I Just built a bio reactor to use all the whites and crap oil that settles out, had 2 batches out so far.
I got teclamet valves, fuel line, switches to do a twin tank, but the Surf ran well so far on 90% veg 10% petrol with a heat exchanger so didn't fit the valves. Going to fit a 110 tank as soon as I can get the filler sorted to give me double the range.

                  Fuel Tank Sender

I just like making things do something they were not designed to do..
The centrifuge bowl is giving me a headache. I dont have room for 2 tanks, I only just managed to get the 180 ltr one in the garage. I have virtually no waste from the wvo I am getting, certainly no whites some thick black sediment but that was the old sump oil I mixed when I changed the oil last.
It works OK but the colour is always black. It is getting cleaner now though.

If anyone else is reading this I found a thread that described an inspection hatch under the rear seat above the tank. Although it didnt give access to anything I did manage to reach the wires from the sender. Found the Yellow/Red one at last.
I have connected my landy tank sender in but so far it reads virtually empty.
Is there anyone out there with a tank on the bench that they can measure the resistance range of the sender from full to empty for me please so I can compare it to the landy one.
Of course I might be nearly out of veggie in that tank and its telling the truth.
Otherwise I will have to wait until it runs out then remove the sender and work it out that way.

                  John

Guess you need to half fill the veggie tank to see if the gauge is regestering,
i never got round to connecting the landy gauge just run the wireing in place so afraid i cant help you much, if you think the wireing's correct try filling while someone watches the gauge
Started makeing up the filters and made a wooden stand for em as i did'nt get the wall bracket from them, i know one thing i will order from em asap tho, the spanner for removeing the bowl! naffin tight, and i smeared silicon oil on the threads and "o" rings, would of had it up and running but the paint on the stands still tacky, i think your (both) filtering systems are gonna show my small time effort up a bit

                      Filter Spanner

Yes you deffo need a filter spanner, you dont need to tighten it too much tho cuz the o rings seal on the side.
But if you have had any hot oil thro it you will not easily remove the bowl without a spanner.

I made a mounting bracket out of some sheet steel. It is flimsy until you fix copper pipes and pumps and then it is fine.
                      Post some pic when finished.

I had to re-plumb my veggie pipes this morning. I did the nightclub run with my grandaughter last night and lost power on veggie tank 2. Switched to tank1 and all OK.
It seems that the injector pump does'nt like sucking thro the second filter I bought (I think from Greanteam) So now my tank2 pump feeds into the filter then on to the swirl tank and that leaves the injector pump sucking from the swirl tank. That cured it
The swirl tank sure gets hot from the heated filter and also the hot waste oil from the injector. Good job it is designed to be full of hot coolant water.
I think Blaster Bills drainpipe would have melted

Still not got my guage working I will wait until I run out then take it out and sort it then. Luckily it comes out of the side of the tank and not on top.
I wish I knew what resistance the Surf one is tho.

                        Help !!!!

                        Hi Guy's
                        I am desperate.

Ran out of veggie from tank2 and the engine stopped at a roundabout. No probs I thought switch to tank1 that has a mixture in.

The engine duly started and I pulled away but could hear a noise not unlike a big end.
Parked up and listened, it sounds too high up the engine for big ends and is a very loud metalic knock. It only sounds on acceleration, sounds fine on tickover

Oil pressure is normal and it was running fine before running out.

Called the AA and they thought maybe not the bigends but not sure so they airlifted me home.

                        Any ideas guy's.????

Also can anyone tell me how to start a new thread, I can not find a link anywhere for it.

                                Fuel Pump

Well as I thought the Jag fuel pump didnt like veggie.
Took it out yesterday, it can hardly turn.
Replaced with a fuel pump from a renault which survived last nights freeze and worked fine today, it did blow the 5amp fuse I had fitted but I am not surprised at that. Replaced with a 15amp and all it OK.

Everything is now working fine, swirl tank, landy tank with heater and heated fuel filter. I even got the landy fuel sensor to work, I had to apply some electronics to it and also bend the arm a bit but now it reads quarter full with 20ltrs veggie and half full with 40ltrs. Thats good enough for me. I think the landy tank is about 80ltrs anyway.
My original tank now has about 30% veggie so now using it as my regular diesel tank again.

My centrifuge now has a new (mk3) bowl and that seems to be ok also.

I am going to have scratch around for a new project.
