  • Snorkels

    Hi everybody,
has anybody got any experience with choosing/installing a snorkel to a 3.0 surf. Are they really a neccessity if you want to do any offroading, are they difficult to obtain and fit?

If any of you guys can offer advice on this I would be grateful,
    Many thanks in advance Joe

Not really! unless your intending to go in deep water (above ya headlights)
quite easy to fit, safari are the most common and come with the fitting kit and template for drilling the buttock clenching holes in ya paintwork, do a search and you'll fine the revelent info on fitting/obtaining em, your looking around the £200 mark for safari, or you could make your own,

Talking of snorkels, why do they have to be so high, I mean, who actually drives through water up to the top of the windscreen? Surely an air intake at door mirror level will suffice, especially if the truck is lifted, which you would do first anyway before fitting a snorkel!

Mine's done 97,000 MILES now, about 30,000 by me.

Re. the snorkel, it's more to do with things like waves and splashes rather than the absolute depth of water. I find it's a nice insurance policy when following crazy Boyo!

                      Snorkels?

Thanks for the info guys, i thought it might be a more difficult job to fit as i had seen something about axle breather pipes and suchlike needing to be connected to it Perhaps i'll wait and see if we like the offroading part first,(giving the avalanche weekend a try) before we make any decisions on modifications.?
Anyway, once again thank you for your input
                      Cheers Joe

the diff breathers don't need to go into the snorkel most of us just have them secured under the bonnet somewhere with a small filter attached to the end to stop any crud being sucked thru

Don't just take one course for experience you need to try out different places as one place could be brilliant and another awfull so try a few before making your mind up whether or not its for you or not
