  • Top mount intercooler question

    Silly question.

I might be getting a 2.4L TD Surf(Bank depending) I'll be wanting to do exhaust and probably an intercooler for a little more power and milage. Most of my driving is all low end grunt, even with my current V8.

Now any intercooler for it to work decently needs to have air flowing through it, otherwise it's a passive cooler.. I haven't seen anything like what I'm thinking....

I'm thinking of a top mount intercooler, similar to that of a Pajero. Now for low speed cooling why not attach a 10" electric cooling fan to the bottom? Would the load from the Alt negate any gains from the fan? The fan would only be run in low speed grunt situations, like towing a stuck vehicle, city driving with a trailer... etc. Then at 30mph+ speeds a scoupe would be used.

I'm asking cause I have a dual electric 12" on my car, and half a dual 10" - one fan broke, so I still have one.

    Just tossing that out there....

will you have enough room between the engine and underside of the bonnet to fit the intercooler and fan?

A couple of good links there mate, thanks, i'm intending useing one of my old AC fans under the cooler (as their pullers) and wondering about switching it,
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

Yep, the fan goes under the intercooler and theres about 80 - 100mm to play with and 9" fans are available as thin as 49mm. Thats with a 2" body lift.

ah, I thought you'd need some sort of lift to get the extra inches of space. Would like to get an intercooler for mine, but I'll wait until after I get mine lifted
