  • TH350 auto box

Anyone know how the electric torque converter lock up on a TH330 autobox is set up . I have done 3 days of Google searches with no answers .1 guy I spoke to knows how it works but not how to set it up . If I set it up wrong the torque converter can bang on down shift and may damage the 'box .
If anyone has a repair manual they can scan or want to sell for a 1985 Chevy C10 , I would be greatful .
Just need to sort this out before I consider the engine and autobox swap .

Err , wot 4 prong plug . Just 1 wire to connect to a switch on the ns of the box . No kick down cable either , which I think means it is worked of the vac unit . I never passed my autobox course at college , the box I 'rebuilt' had some the parts relocated out the window , along with some of the other students parts from theirs . .

Tony , do you want that th350 in Southport ? I can get Tam's uncle to collect it for you as he lives there and I can run it down here next time I go up or he comes down ?
Wot transfer box did you buy ? I am still thinking of getting the th350 adaptor kit from Downey to fit the G52 Toyota shipped over , along with fibreglass 1/4 panels ,fibreglass wings, fibreglass t/gate and doors . May aswell get a fibreglass bonnet too.

are we talking a late or newer th350 box here rick.coz if it has only one wire then i think you may find its not a lock up box.if its a newer model then the cars computer would normally control the lock up.normally on a LOCK UP BOX THERE IS EITHER TWO OR THREE WIRES.one neg and one pos and one to a switch.and the switch is normally found at the top of the box,is it a single green wire.does it have a vacum modulator.

The guy told me and Tim he thought it was a 4 speed , but someone went round to view the engine and box before I bought it and said it was a 3 speed with lock up torque coverter . The sites I have found say it is an electric operated lock up by the switch on the ns side .It does have the vac unit on os of box . The guy thought the kick down was operated off this switch but I think he means the toque converter lock up.

the vacum modulator does control the kick down.the lock up is controlled by the switch, you can run the box without the lock up switch connected but you cant run the box without the vac modulator connected.

the easiest solution to this problem rick is to fit a manually operated toggle switch to the box, this way you can control the lock up on the box manually.fit the switch in to the dash and flick it on when your in top gear.then flick it off around town.(just like the overdrive switch on the surf.)

Ok , that seems to be the answer by you guys and more goggle answers , only thing the goggle answer said was to make sure the lock up is off when changing down or the box may go bang due to to much 'direct drive' .

correct.basically treat it like an overdrive(only in top gear or to give you engine braking whilst off roading at low speeds).

I got one today, so cheers but its OK, I went to pick up the NP302 I won on ebay, but when I got there he had a TH350/NP305 sitting there next to it, so after a suitable offer I got them instead.

Its huge! Heavy as fawk but I bet I can't break it, not that I've ever managed to break a Toy t/case (unlike thier gearboxes ...) but what the hell, it saves building a skid plate!

If your getting a container full of stuff, I'd like a set of these.....
