4runner sunroof

I have a 1994 4runner and I have not been able to get the sunroof to open since i purchased it 6 months ago. Does anybody have any tips or knows what the most common reasons for the roof not to work.

Assuming it's electric, is there a button next to the open / close switch?
If so try pressing that and try again.

If when you try and operate the roof you can hear the motor running then the most like cause is the plastic drive thingy's are broken. Ok not very technical but there is a sort of flexible gear strip down both sides of the roof that pushes and pulls and I think that is the common fault. Mine has been broke for nearly two years now but it's too much aggravation waiting for a sunny day to take it apart

also there is a small panel next to switch built for manual drive in case you stuck in the rain hope this helps
