  • A bars

Hi, first time to post in this forum but already got loads of great advice though. Just got a Mk2 surf and started the modification process already (got rid of the radio for a start!)

Next is a front A Bar and spots. Looking around I really like the look of the one on Andy Rossi's in the members rig section of this site. Does anyone (or Andy himself) know where I could get a similar sort of thing or details of the fitting so I could maybe get something fabricated??

Failing that I'm after a reasonably priced A bar - its for purely practical purposes so spending a fortune a posh chrome bar isn't a priority, the one on roughtrax seems about the chapest I've found that meets the criteria, any other suggestions

Any help would be muchly appreciated

    Thanks a lot.

Just realised - Nick V- the ones on your new surf look similar. Ideally I'd like something a bit smaller but do you have the make of them or even better some closer up photos??

    Many thanks

Yeah - I was looking at those and they're still my backups - just kinda fancied the angular sides as opposed to the tube.

just had a look at the piccie, nice looking bars andy, was admiring some similar bar on a landcrusier only today!
only place i've seen anything like this for sale was from an american company, "performance products"??? (i'll try and find one of there catalogues tommorow to confirm) i think they did a full width bull bar that came in three sections so you could just have the centre section without the headlight guards which bolted on/off

just dug out an old catalog (1997) they list 2 types, smittybilt & grizzly. just been to the web site, www.perfomanceproducts.com, sorry don't know how to do links yet! only list smittybilt now. actually on home page, but if you specify "toyota" and search for exterior accessories you'll find modular brush guards and bumper thumpers. both similar to Andy's but only got 5/16"plate ends.

added: believe me the link doesn't work! not sure how it became one, just type in address old fashioned way!

Found the Smittybilt Bumper Thumpers on specialist Leisures site in the UK, just emailed them to find out prices - anyone dealt with them / heard of them at all??

Just can't find if they do them for the mk2 surf either, I guess if the prices are reasonable enough could always adapt the mountings?? Any chance someone can post a pic of where A bars actually bolt onto, had a look underneath but can't work out where.

                Cheers

Specialist Leisure were based near RISLEY - WARRINGTON i think they have just moved premises. They know the 4runner & can get parts from the states some bits are pricey though but the owner is very helpful.

Steve, sorry just seen this post. The ones on the front of mine are similar to ones I have seen on a number of Pajeros - sorry about that word! They should have side bits on which go round the front of the h/lamps and around the side and I don't like those bits in the slightest. Not sure where they come from, but the name on them is '4x4 Engineering'.

I will take a close up piccy and then post for you,

                      Cheers, Nick

thats great - many thanks for your help. Anyone know of bars that can fit 4 spots on - or to be more specific 2 spots & 2 fogs to get wide angle and long distance??

Think I've found the bolt holes that the bars fit onto, also found wiring already in for fog lights just cut and dropped behind the fogs so that should make that bit easy anyway, metered it and it all seems fine.

                        Thanks again
