Am i right in thinking that you should have the biggest intercooler you can fit? as this will act as a plenum chamber and a small one may restrict air flow which would defeat the object?

aftermarket ic's are usually mounted below the rad so you don't need a scoop.
vented bonnets for engine cooling usually have rearward facing louvres (like on the ford cosworth/renault GT turbo) these increase the airflow through the engine bay.
on the highly tuned "hot hatches" you will usually see the front bumper cut away to expose the larger intercooler.
Forward facing bonnet vents 'ram' feed air through a top mounted intercooler . But rearward facing vents to to help draw ait from the engine bay .
Your average car vents the engine bay under the car but these Surfs have so much packed under the bonnet there is not much room for air flow .If you mount the vent forward it could make things worse (IN MY OPINION) as the air could 'stall' in the engine bay . The rearward facing vent would help the air escape in the direction of travel and hopefully increase air through the rad and engine bay . p.s. you really need your speakers on for this.

the info and know-how being shared here is really really helpful!
thanks so so much!
that is why hot-rodders have their hood scoops opening facing towards the windshield for the purpose of not creating turbulence against the radiator fan.
this way ALL the hot air is pushed out in one direction out of the engine bay instead of it circling around it.
now i understand even further.
no wonder my friends who have no bonnets installed, lifted their hoods, the area facing towards the driver.
