Oil leak

Hi i have a leak and booked into the garage who serviced it, when i last spoke to them they could not find a leak .The oil i think is diff oil is light brown/red but smells different to atf fluid although similar colour (very strong smell) i said about the diff breather being blocked , i have to travel the motorway to the garage would as i have said before if the diff breather was blocked would the motorway journey cause the pressure to build up and leak but normal driving not cause this excess pressure therfore not showing a leak. I got them to check quicky before and they said itwas probally where the oil filter was changed and oil comes from the filter but this oil is clean not dirty.

Could be oil leaking down from the block where the filter was changed as it goes everywhere. If not it is quite possible that it is from a blocked diff breather, Motorway driving heats up the diff quite a lot and it is this heat that builds up the pressure and causes a leak if the breather is blocked.

Hi thanks for the reply i think from the smell it is not engine oil as they said they steamed the area before, they also said are you sure it is not water from the air con (been tinkering with cars for 30 yrs),i would still put my money on a blocked diff breather and the excess pressure caused my motorway journeys but perhaps they might check now, maybe not! Some times its hard to educate pork!
