  • L reg 3.0l surf wont start

    Hi all,
My 3.0l surf will not start, when i turn the key nothing happens at all, no lights on dash, no clicking, lights in door panels come on. I have checked batteries output is 12.4v on one and 13.2 on other?????? Any clues as where to start??
    Cheers

    Does your clock dim?

Did you check batteries seperately. Linked together they will not give a correct voltage. One battery may be dead. What's the voltage of batteries when you turn the key to start?

i dont understand the last two replys
no dash lights how the clock gonner dim
even with a dud batt the dash would light dimly maybe but light

however i think you should look at a broken main earth or
the main fuse also check altonater for broken wires
the door light would come on its on a open circuit
well thats what a welsh semi finalist thinks anyway

Where's the problem with my reply? I was pointing out how to check batteries correctly. Where is the "altonater"?

what i said one batt may not
be any good but even so the dash would
            light even if dimly

I asked if it dims. If it dims there's a decent current draw, meaning the starter is being engaged. If it doesn't, the starter isn't being engaged. It helps you pinpoint the location of the failure.

By "lights on dash" people normally mean warning lights etc. Clock is on any time ignition is on. Stop being facetious, the OP was rather vague in detail, you being pedantic helps no-one.

                        Hi all,
Apologies for the delay in responding to your posts but the site wouldn't allow me to respond until now!
It turned out to be the 80 amp glow plug and 100 amp alternator fuses had melted!! I replaced them and all seemed fine until yesterday when I noticed the 80 amp fuse had gone again!! As auto electrics seems like a dark art to me I have no clue where to start.... any hints would be much appreciated

                        Cheers

nar just follow wires from fuses and you will
come to a point were you will find wires
burnt isolate by tape or renew bad bits
or go the whole hog and get a lecky to look
