  • ADD Noise Fixed !!!!!!!!

    Hi All
A couple of weeks back I asked for some help on a noise coming from the front end that I thought was the ADD system playing up
    (Here is the old thread)
Well It has been fixed & it had nothing to do with the ADD.
There is a Brass Bush behind the hub that the drive sharft goes thru, it had become worn & oversized (only a couple of mill) & run out of grease. So the bush was replaced (after chiseling the old one out) regreased put back together
& too date hasn't made that horrilbe noise again
Thanks for your help & idea's

    John

Is that the noise that I have? It sounds like a sqaudron of Lancasters under the truck. It goes away if I turn the music up loud enough
      It's only a hobby!

yep sure have, there is an inner and outer bush. Worth replacing both as both mine had worn.

Changed my wheel bearings the other day and noticed my drive shaft was as loose as a loose thing, didn't feel like there were any bushes there!!. Got no noises though apart from a really horrid creaking on full lock when reversing I thought this might be the anti roll bar, got new bushes for it and going to do it today.

Thats probably the steering stop, but the drive shaft should'nt have much play in it either, grab the CV and try and move it up and down in the hub, Koi's (and my 2.4, and the ex's 4Runner) all felt looser than a loose thing!

Not sure about the steering stop, it doesn't have to be on full lock to do it, took the anti roll bar out of the way when I dropped my gear box to do rear crank oil seal and it's very worn, I'll try the grease trick on the stops and see if it goes. My drivers side upper ball joint is shagged so putting a new one on today, might be a battle not done one before.

                Good luck.

They are OK, upper ball joint is easier than the bottem one.

                  Those bronze bushes

I too have the horrible rattling noise when I go over bumps and as a result of this thread have now purchased a complete set of bushes for both sides from Toyota for the very reasonable price of £76!

Now, could you please give a little more detail on how you change them over.

Any photos would be good. If not I will photograph the job as I do it and post the photos here?
