3rd Gen issues to look for?

Hi all,

I'm going to have a peek at a 3ltr 3rd Gen in the morning, as I've never owned one before I'm wondering what I should be looking for. How's the best way to check for head issues etc.

I'm confident there'll be info somewhere on the forum, I just can't find it!

Apart from the usual checks on the cooling system etc there's a couple of things I would look at that are specific to the 3rd Gen surf.

The rear hub seals tend to leak, so check for oil around the inner part of the rear wheels, rim. RT do a replacement kit but it's a fiddly job if done properly.
Also the steering rack bushes are usually worn. RT do the full rack or just the bushes.
