  • Any rear suspension recommendations?

    3rd gen 3L kzn185w

    Hi chaps,

Can anybody recommend some seriously strong rear suspension?

I will be carrying well in excess of 500kg in the back of my truck on a permanent basis. That's before I or any passengers get in and not including the roof rack, or anything I put on it, or anything that I may need to transport in the back.

The weight is spread pretty evenly from the rear passenger footwell back. There are no back seats. Rear passenger footwell is carrying 300kg alone.
Thinking about it, well in excess of 500kg is a very conservative guess!

I've considered Air-lift but that's only rated to the maximum recommended carrying capacity of the vehicle as set by Toyota. Which I believe is around 640kg? Please correct me if I'm lying.
Air-lift doesn't strengthen anything either, if in fact that's actually necessary.

I'm wondering if anyone has come across this kind of problem before and how they got around it, or, if I'm making a mountain out of a molehill and worrying about a non existent problem.

    Any thoughts anyone?

    Hi,
I carry similar loads in my 3rd gen for expeditions. You want RT +20% rear springs and a good quality rear shock: Monroe, kyb, blistein etc.

    Good luck

      Great!
I was thinking that an expedition truck may well carry the same sort of weight.

      Thanks very much Tashtego.

After dabbling with various configurations, I can't recommend OLD Man Emu springs enough, - they also do various "Extra Load" rated springs. The Bilsten shocks also seem excellent, also after a couple of years, they don't seem to have sagged too much.

Granted I don't run extra weight... but I have confidence in the brands.... and I'm "kinda fussy".
        More Lift.
        More Tyres.
        More Engine.
