  • Gen 2 Air con

Hope this is the right section.. please move if not

My gen 2 air con has stopped working, there is evidence of dye all over the compressor from obvious previous work, the low pressure cap had pressure behind it when removed and it appears the valve is leaking, so all refrigerant gone.

Does anyone know any air con specialists in west Yorkshire? or what is required, new compressor etc?

or shall I face facts the air con is buggered and open all the windows?

i always take the aircon system out, got a pile of stuff in the garage of it i don't need, i just open the windows, better for engine (less drag)

Most garages will recharge your air con for about £50.
They generally leak from the compressor shaft seal, where the a c isn't used the seal can sort of dry out a bit.
If you were nearer I would do it for you.

Thanks for the replies. It appears to be leaking from the actual low pressure valve, the peg doesn't seem to be stopping it, I've tried with one of those DIY cans and I just get a hissing sound back when I take it off.

I'll keep my eye out for spares.

It has worked when I bought it but obviously slowly leaked away. There's die all over the compressor so whoever had it before me has had it looked at. I'll open the windows for now.

Changing the valve is easy, should only cost a couple of quid.
If you went for the £50 regas they would have probably changed the valve as a matter of course.

cheers I'll look into somewhere decent to do a regas and swap the valve, other than kwik fit. I know the air con system works fine otherwise
