Rear damper 3rd gen top nut removal

Have used the search with no definitive answer found, but I can't even get a spanner to fit on o\s damper top nut. Any body know the size. Before anyone says what about comparing it to the n/s I'm afraid that sheared off somewhere hence the need do some urgent repairs!!

Just in case anyone comes across some old (I think) Pro comp es9000(?) It's a 17mm top nut. I resorted to disc cutting the thing up, still can't get a spanner to hold on the nut it's too corroded.

I've also found that non genuine Toyota ones often have different sizes!
