play in front wheel

I noticed some play in the off side front wheel when I rocked it from side to side, is this the wheel bearing gone. there was no play when I rocked top and bottom.

I may stand corrected on this one, but you shouldn't bother side to side as you'll get partial steering movement included. You should be just rocking top and bottom, spin wheel 90 degs and repeat top and bottom, spin again 90 and repeat etc. if no play with no tightness felt when spinning wheel and no noises when driving then bearing is fine.
