Rebuilt the gear shift today, however, now the overdrive button does not hold in the depressed position. It moves freely. Internals both white plastic sections, spring and the electrical conector. Am I missing something?

Probably the latching doohickey in the switch not...er....latching.

It moves smoothly and fully it just won't catch. Had it stripped down three times and all appears correct. I will try the wd.

No joy, the button moves freely but won't hold in. It has not had power through it since rebuilt as the batteries are off do you think this matters?

A local fella who I had not spoken to in 10 months. He is looking for another surf for his landscape business.

Anyway what about my ###### overdrive problem!

You must be over looking something obvious with the overdrive, can you not look at someone elses to see how its put together.
Thats all i can suggest at the minute.

Press it harder, if that doesn't work press it with a hammer.
                      Non consternationes.

This is not the general section, I was hoping for grown up answers.
