  • Tinkly Bearing Noise

    Hiya,

Our truck has developed a loose / tinkling / grinding / bearing type noise intermittently. Cornering / braking / downshifting / rolling in 'N' makes no difference.
You can only hear it outside the car (or with the windows open) its from the front but other than that I have no idea !!!!

    Help ?

a month or two ago mine developed a dry bearing type of noise from the gearbox i'm sure and now six weeks on its practically gone, didnt spend a penny getting anyone to look at it, maybe a metal fragment got embedded or whatever, it was intermittent too

I had a horrible rattly noise under a 4x4, put it up on the lift and couldn't find a thing wrong with it apart from a funny noise from the silencer when it was thumped - assumed the silencer had come apart inside so bought a new exhaust.
When I went to fit the new (expensive) exhaust, I discovered a broken bracket, Doh!!, it had broken with a saw tooth profile so when the engine was off it locked back in place. 5 minutes welding fixed it and I have a spare exhaust

Check the front pads and calipers to see if any muck/stones are lodged in the area - that makes a graunchy noise. So do wheel bearings which are on the way out.

Alteratively - turn up the stereo and don't open the window

            Good luck

              Crusty says "front brake pads"

You have a metal "low pad" warning clip thing on the pad that makes a noise against the rotor to let you know when your pads are worn. Trouble is, most people drive round for another 12 months thinking, "What is that noise?".
