I have a 1996 3lt diesel Surf. Recently I have been losing power, then the overdrive light starts flashing. If I carry on driving, the engine will cut out. Then she will go for a week without a problem, then she loses power again. So it's an intermittent problem. I have taken her to several auto electricians, code 62 on the overdrive comes up on the computer as the fault. Apparently that the sellanoids in the gearbox. All sellanoids were tested & they were all ok. Anyone had anything similar or can advise

Hello there, after ignoring the flashing OD light for ooooh bout 6 years now I finally jammed in my paperclip and discovered a code 62 like you something about Solenoids!

Saw your post, and no replies and wondered if you ever got to the bottom of your problem?

    Cheers

        Running on hope

Yup...... I didn't love her much at first, the early years were much like a marriage, I tried to kill her - Failed, she tried to kill me - Failed.

We're in love now though and so I inserted my paperclip into her and she told me what was bothering her!

I believe she wants me to fiddle with Solenoid No.1 as it's playing up and making gearshifts a little disorderly!

I've seen you reply to many posts on here so I'm glad you popped up!

Would you know or be able to confirm whether my research is correct,
someone suggested that vehicles around the same age used the same Solenoids for their autoboxes and that the following vehicles would make suitable donors!

Quote" In my pursuit to replace my shift solenoids, i found some useful cross reference info. The #1 and #2 shift solenoids (85420-22080) were the same in all of the following vehicles. I wanted to swap in some used ones b4 i buy new ones to make sure i have the problem found. Auto tranny trucks are rare in the junk yards around here, so this list should come in handy when i go looking...

        84-95 Trucks (2wd & 4wd)
        93-98 T100
        92-97 Previa Van
        86.5-92 Supra"

        Is that likely?
