Hi Folks
Has anyone experienced a back brake drum warping and causing continuous binding problems? My drivers side (since having an oil seal changed) was probably not correctly reset by mechanic using handbrake to position the auto pad adjuster mechanism, which has resulted in binding and overheating after I got it back
Since then every attempt to rectify lasts about 40 miles driving and then..handbrake starts to tighten, judder develops, starts driving like in treacle...cue the heat and smell.
I did check the run out on the drum but couldnt find a difference of more than 0.4mm across it....is that enough to let the pads open sufficiently to cause friction overheating...and the more you heat it the worse it gets obviously
I have stripped, cleaned, checked and re-assembled 3 times now with same outcome. Only way I can see is new drum and pad set??
I had a similar problem years ago when fitting a set of Milner pads and nearly seized up solid both drums, only to discover the pads OD did not match the drum ID (watch this if you buy Milners) but that was fixed by replacing with Roughtrax set. Never beeen in position of not being able to fix binding problem before??
cheers
