  • 3rd Gen triptonic conversion

I recently had a chat with a mate who mentioned that they went on an expedition and had an advantage over the automatic vehicles.

When coasting down hill for miles it really saved their brakes going downhill having the ability to pop it into a gear and use the engine as a brake.

    My question.....

Is it possible to tap into the ECU and instal a selector switch to overide the automatic gear changing and manually select a gear?

I know you have 1st and 2nd, but what if you want 3rd or 4th?

Its a good point. All auto cars I have had have gone tru break pads much faster than manual ones, because of the lack of breaking action by the engine.
    Cheers

Well I just learned something new. I always thought the engine breaking was poor compared to my manual jeep. Never knew it was to do with being an auto. Thanks

It appears not. I thought Cyberlux could but hes obviously not too sure or maybe he just got lucky in line 3.

Whilst we're being picking about spelling could I just point out it's 'tiptronic' not 'triptonic'.

And why not go full pedant?
Tiptronic is I believe licensed by Porsche, so unless the OP is also changing the transmission to something from the fatherland then that is also wrong.
                    Just saying.
