I thought the 3Ltr brake master cylinder had a bigger bore.

        Nev.

ok, why then, did an Aussie member state that the 3Ltr has a 1 1/16" bore when he had to replace it? The 2.4 has a 1" bore. Have you measured both Vince? Can't really go by the Toyota part number as I don't think the 3Ltr master has a lug for heat shield, so this alone will make it a different part number.

Mine does have 1 1/16 cast into the top of the cylinder under the resevoir. It transpires that the master cylinder is not at fault, but a brake pipe rotted out in a really bad place to get to (on the chassis toward the rear of the fuel tank and behind the spring mount) just where all the shite accumulates. will I have to replace it right up to the master cylinder or can I joint it toward the front end of the fuel tank as it looks in really good condition there?

Cut out the bad bit and just remake that section where it is easier to do.
