      cooling problems

have carried out the mod, removed viscous coupling and topped up the oil, to the bottom of the inner plate slots, and refitted. temperature gauge now reads to the left hand side of the thermometer sign of the gauge. it took about 50cc of the oil.

The ever helpfull toyota garage had no idea of what the oil was & was not willing to help, oil is available from,

This is the same oil, same viscosity, and in 60cc containers, 1 should do the job.

        overheating

Had a similar problem with my 2nd gen 2.4 around home and local no probs on m/way at 55 mph no probs try to run at 65mph and temp would go up to just before red and electric fan would cut in. Unable to hear fan wooshing took of fan assy and discovered small shaft with bi metal spring seized copious application of acf 50 plus warming with blow lamp freed it of and on refitting no o/heating probs and can hear fan operating.
        Hope this helps someone
