In my novice opinion, The surf compared to some others is a heavy ass 4x4, it will have no problem pulling and keeping a horsebox under control.
I've towed a 25ft heavy caravan (not the lightweight new type) and it was fine.
I would say you need the transmission fluid cooler fitted if its an Auto as the hot fluid that passes through the bottom of the rad starts to heat the engine coolant up and it pushes the temp gauge right up. This only happens on hills I've recently found!
