  • Hub removal

    Afternoon all

Had a front wheel bearing collapse on me on the motorway

Finally got it home and stripped down the hub, but can't get the hub off asthe bearing is stopping it

Don't have a slide hammer/dremmel so cant remove it or slit the race to aid removal

Anyone got any ideas on how to remove it?

    Cheers
    Luke

A clue as to what vehicle the hub is connected to would be good.

Anyhoo. If the hub/driveshaft have been damaged by a collapsing bearing, the best thing to do is to take the hub/driveshaft out as a unit. If you think it'll be too heavy to do in one lift, you can always cut the shaft as you'll be replacing it and the hub anyway.

        Its a '95 kzn130 manual

Im on the borrow for a slide hammer, it should be enough to remove the disk and hub so i can replace the lot in 1 go

Sounds like the bearing has welded itself to the stub axle. New steering knuckle if it has.

If the inner part of the rear bearing is tight on the shaft you'll need to pull it hard enough to pull the rear seal out and leave it and the race on the shaft, but like Nev says if it got hot enough to weld itself together you maybe be looking just binning the lot and getting a good used complete hub.

is this bearing on a 3rd or 2nd gen?

had wheel bearingstart rumbing and going loose on my colorado
took steering knuckle off, and took down to local garage.
took nearly 15tons on a 30t press to remove the bearing

but colorado/3rd gen have different bearing/hub assembly to 2nd gen
