  • Replacement Sills

Has anyone found a UK aftermarket supplier of sills for the Surf, or are they a Toyota dealer item?

I've found a few places in the States that do them, but so far, nowhere over here.

Alternatively, has anyone replaced their sills with box section? I know that's a common alternative for other, lesser, 4x4s

According to the parts guy I spoke to, that's for the outer sill on each side.

A supplier in the US does these for $35 per side.

I think I'll just get some steel bent up locally or fab my own.

I ended up getting a local sheet metal shop to bend me a pair of sills up from 1.6mm Zintec. Worked out at £98 + VAT, which didn't seem too bad.

I haven't fitted them yet, but they look as though they should do the job nicely.

I knocked up a drawing of the profile, which you're welcome to use. I approximated it to use just straight bends, no curves like the original sills.

            Dimensioned profile
            Outline profile

Thanks for this, were the inner part of the sill intact on your, because on mine one side is completely shot.

the other side is seemingly fine.

The rear of the passenger side inner sill has crumbled through on mine, but the drivers side seems fine.

Exactly as mine, the passenger side is totalled, yet driver's side looks pretty good, very odd

It's pretty normal on Mk1 MR2s that the passenger side metalwork is worse than the drivers side. This is probably due to that side of the car driving through more water and salty slush in the winter compared to the drivers side.
